Hà - March 28, 1952
Khánh Hà was born in Da Lat on March 28, 1952, one of 7 children. Her siblings are Bich Chieu, Tuan Ngoc, Anh Tu, Thuy Anh, Lan Anh and Luu Bich. Bích Chiêu and Tuấn Ngọc, were already established singers before she began her singing career at 16, at the Queen Bee Nightclub in Saigon. Then she formed a group called The Flowers, along with her older brother, Anh Tú. Her younger sister, Thúy Anh, joined them to form the singing trio, Thúy Hà Tú. As The Uptight, formed in 1972, they included another younger sister, Lan Anh, drums.
After the Fall of
Saigon, they emigrated to California, and The Uptight played nightclubs for
many years throughout the USA, Canada, Australia and Europe. In 1981, Khanh Ha
produced her first solo album, Goi Giac Mo Xua, on cassette, with the help of
musician Tùng Giang. She formed her own label, Khanh Ha Productions, in 1988,
which became one of the best overseas Vietnamese music labels. Khánh Hà and
her siblings also started a nightclub, Chez Moi, in Alhambra,
California which lasted several years.
She has been a
regular performer on the music video series, Paris By Night, for 30 years.
She married singer To Chan Phong in
1992, and has two grown sons. She has returned to Vietnam on several very successful
concert tours, playing at venues such as the Saigon Opera House and the Hoa
Binh Municipal Theater in Ho Chi Minh City.
